Does a global temperature exist?

Global warming has become a hot topic in the mass media. »Warming« is usually measured by the change of temperature - but does a »global temperature« make sense?

While geographers do not seem to have problems with this term, its definition raises difficult questions from a mathematical viewpoint. Read the review of Vadim Komkov (Florida) in Zbl 1130.80004 to get acquainted with objections from the field of non-equilibrium thermodynamics.
